Corrosion Management
Corrosion Management is a practice aiming at providing a systematic approach to managing the corrosion risks in Oil & Gas Production. It is a key component of the overall management system, which is concerned with the development, implantation, review and maintenance of an effective Corrosion Policy. It provides a systematic mechanism to identify and mitigate corrosion risks, as well as an avenue to monitor the effectiveness and performance of this mechanism.
One thing we must remember is that corrosion is not a simple technical issue. It has an overarching impact on design, operations, maintenance and engineering. The following diagram precisely depicts this system (J Fletcher). Therefore, a systematical approach is vital in order to address corrosion management.
